Mississippi gets $1.87M for temporary jobs after storms
May 30, 2014
Mississippi will hire up to 420 temporary workers to help with recovery from storm damage resulting from tornadoes that hit the state in early April. The jobs are funded by the Federal Department of Labor with an initial grant of $1.87 million, with more than $4 million available for additional assistance if it is needed to complete the clean-up effort.
The funding will come from a discretionary fund available to U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez and is based on Mississippi meeting specific guidelines.
The temporary jobs are open to workers who lost their jobs because of the storm, in addition to long-term unemployed in the state and others.
