Bruce Patel’s hard work pays off
May 16, 2014
The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Bhupender “Bruce” Patel the Mississippi Small Business Person of the Year. He will be honored in Washington, D.C., May 15-16 during National Small Business Week.
Patel is the managing principal of Fusion Hospitality, a turnkey hotel design, development, construction and management firm.
Hard work and family support are credited by Patel for his success.
He was born in Birmingham, England, and immigrated to Alabama at age 11. His family operated and lived in a motel, and Patel says through the years he has performed every job in the hotel industry.
Patel studied business and finance at the University of Alabama and relocated to Mississippi in 1999, working for three years as the property maintenance man at his uncle’s hotel.
In 2003, he bought and renovated a property in Tupelo. During the renovation period, the general contractor was rarely on site and Patel realized that his company had to do the work itself.
Thus was born Fusion Hospitality, the turnkey firm that can do every step of conceiving and constructing a hotel, even opening the hotel.
Today Fusion employs about 300 workers scattered across Mississippi, Maryland, Tennessee, Virginia, Georgia and Ohio with a new property under development in Texas.
